Note: Proved Aug 31, 1661 - Exx. wife Sarah, she being appointed by
Town Council, the will being somewhat dubious. Overseers,
friends Edward Thurston and Richard Tew. To wife Sarah,
housing and lands in Portsmouth, and all goods, cattle, and
other movables for her needs of life. At her death estate to
be divided into three shares, to sons, Jacob, Eleazer and
Gershom. Son Jacob is to have if he be contented, what I gave
his at upper corner of my farm, and if not, then other land.
If either of these three brothers die before my wife then
whoever of them live are to have the others' part. Those who
enjoy the land are to pay son John, 20s, and to Adam, an ewe
lamb, within three months of their mother's decease. To
Elizabeth Thurston, wife of Edward, an ewe lamb. To Edward
Thurston and Richard Tew, and ewe lamb each. The overseers
were empowered to give all the children some gift of movables.
Inventory, 372 pounds, 6 shillings., viz: house and land 150
pounds, 4 oxen, 5 cows, bull, horse, mare, colt, 2 calves, 30
ewe sheep, 2 rams, 6 swine, wampum peage 3 pounds, wearing
clothes, books, 2 feather beds, 2 flock beds, 6 pewter
platters, wine pot, warming pan, 7 pair of sheets, 6 napkins, 2
tables, joint stool, 1 1/2 acres wheat, 2 acres oats, 2 acres
peas, 3 acres Indian corn.

Note: The ould man was evidently held in high esteem, for the order
of June 9, 1652 provided "that there shalbe a stone house built
for the more comfortabl beinge of ould John Mott in the winter"
