Note: Former Navy Man Dies of War Ills. Harry Paasch Never Recovered
from Effects of Flu in France.

Harry Paasch, aged 38 years, unmarried, passed away this
morning at the home of his sister, Mrs. George Blundell at 601
1/2 south Madison Street.

Harry Paasch was born in Sheboygan Sept 16, 1887, but went with
his parents to Riverton when but a child. He attended the
Major school in Eden as a boy and when 20 enlisted in the U.S.
Navy, where he served for eight years. He was in the famous
trip around the world made by the navy some years before the
World War.

At the expiration of his enlistment he came home to the farm in
Eden but was in the draft when America entered the World War
and went overseas. While in France he was desperately ill with
the flu for three months and had since suffered recurrent
attacks.

Since coming home from the war Harry had spent most of his time
in Ludington where he enjoyed a large circle of friends. He
had the gift of comradeship and made friends readily.

Harry Paasch had been twice left motherless. His own mother
died when he was a baby and the woman who took her place in a
very real sense, giving him a mother's care, also passed away
some years ago.

Surviving are his father and stepmother, Mr. and Mrs. W. F.
Paasch of Eden; sisters, Mrs. George Blundell, Mrs. William
Laude, Mrs. Menno Schrader, Mrs. Chesley Anthony, Mrs. Mary
Orr, Mrs. Myrtle Bailey, all of Ludington; Mrs. Ida Wallace of
Paris, Ohio, and brothers Will of Grand Rapids, John of
Ludington and George of Wiley.

Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock
from the home of his sister, Mrs. George Blundell, 601 south
Madison street. Interment will be made the West Riverton
Cemetery.

Former Soldier Is Laid to Rest

Full military honors were accorded Harry Paasch at the
impressive funeral services held for him yesterday afternoon at
the home of his sister, Mrs. George Blundell.

Beautiful flowers, tributes of love and sympathy from many
friends, attested to the affection and esteem in which the
young soldier was held.

Rev. C. A. Lemon, the officiating clergyman, dwelt upon the
young man's record for fidelity to duty, his bravery in the
face of great dangers and courage in bearing the suffering that
was his much of the time after his return from service in the
World war. The minister drew from the scriptures the comfort
and promises of reward that are there to he found for those who
thus have "fought a good fight."

W. F. Dowland and Mrs. C. A. Lemon sang the beautiful and
appropriate selections, "Just for Today" and "I Would Be True,"
and Mrs. Lemon sang the solo, "Sleep On, Beloved."

Ex-service men, serving as pall bearers, were: Richard
Anderson, Malcolm Whalen, Fred Schrader, Earl Schrink, Axel
Johnson, Jr., and Oscar Johnson. Joseph Vorac was the bugler,
who sounded "taps," and a firing squad concluded the ceremony
with a salute.
