Catharine Hissong Vs David Hissong Complaint for divorce.\
The plaintiff says that she is now and has been for more
than two years last past, a bona fide resident of the State of
Indiana, and for more than six months last past a bona fide
resident of Marshall County. That the plaintiff and defendant
was duly married on the 5th day of September 1880.
That for several years past the defendant has been guilty
of cruel and inhuman treatment of the plaintiff, in this towit:
That he has repeatedly called her all kinds of vile names and
on various occasions has threatened to murder her and poison
their entire family.
That he has falsely charged her with being guilty of
adultery and has endeavored to destroy her chaste name among
her neighbors, by charging her with improper intimacy with
other men. That on the 16th day of May 1894 the defendant
pulled the plaintiff out of bed and threw her on the floor and
jumped on her ? with his knees. That by reason of the abuse and
ill-treatment of the plaintiff and their children, she was
compelled to abandon the defendant.
That the plaintiff and defendant have, as the fruits of
their marriage five children whose names and ages are as
follows: Minnie L. Hissong, age 13 years, Mary V. Hissong, age
11 years, Mandy L. Hissong, age 9 years, Marvin L. Hissong, age
7 years, Van L. Hissong, age 2 years.
That the defendant is not a fit person to have the care
and custody of said children, and that since the 16th day of
May 1894, the plaintiff has cared for and supported said
children and that she is a suitable person to have the care and
custody of them. That the defendant is the owner of real estate
in Marshall County of the value of Three Thousand dollars and
personal property of the value of Five Hundred Dollars, and
that the plaintiff has no property, real or personal. That the
plaintiff and defendant separated on the 16th day of May 1894
and have not since lived nor cohabited together.
Wherefore the plaintiff prays the court that the bonds of
Matrimony heretofore existing between the plaintiff and
defendant be dissolved, and that the plaintiff be granted a
divorce and that she be given the care and custody of their
said children and that she have judgement for one thousand
dollars alimony and the sum of Fifty dollars per annum for the
maintenance of each of said children to be paid as the court
may direct and for all the proper relief. S.N. Stoma. Atty for
plaintiff.
