Note: In 1902 while trying to light a kerosene lantern, he caught the
house on fire and perished in the blaze.

Note: It is said by family that Wade was an overseer on a plantation
in AL, and later saw active duty in the Civil War where he was
wounded in the leg. He walked with a limp in later years as a
result of the old war wound. He later moved his family to
Texas, then to Oklahoma. In his later years he suffered a
stroke which hindered his movement.

family came from England, settled first in AL and later in TX.

Note: Wade and Mary show up on the 1850 and 1860 census for Marshall
Co., AL with many of their twelve children. Wade is buried on
the old 40 acre farm of his brother, Loven Slaton, where there
used to be about 25 family graves. Unfortunately there are no
longer any signs of the graves there.

Note: Between Nov. 1807 and Sept. 1846 there are numerous land
transactions and deeds recorded for Wade in Pendleton Co. and
Anderson Co., SC, as well as Jackson Co., GA. His will is dated
March 11, 1861 in Jackson Co., GA. (Will book B, pg. 100) It is
said his ancestry can be traced back to Henry SLADDEN, b. 1400,
Kent, England and to William SLATTON of VA in 1695, b. in
Dover, Kent, England.
