Birth: 13 APR 1733 North Carolina
Event: Type: MovedTo
Note: David, his family, sisters and brothers moved down the coast to
the Carolinas.
Event: Type: MovedTo
Date: BETWEEN 1767 AND 1774
Place: Georgia
Note: Because of the oppressive rule of a British representative in
the Carolinas, they suffered greatly. He imposed exorbitant
taxes on all imported goods, property, and legal papers. He
seized their cattle and horses for unpaid taxes, the value of
the confiscated stock far outweighing the amount owed. With
these intolerable conditions existing, the Quakers applied for
grants of land in the frontier territory of Georgia where they
were assured of justice and freedom of religion.
Event: Type: MovedTo
Date: SEP 1802
Place: Miami Co, Ohio
Note: They were the first white settlers of Miami Co, Ohio.
Religion: David manifested a great desire to attend the religious
meetings of the Society of Friends. His parents not belonging
to the society endeavored to dissuade him, but could not
prevail. He often stole off to their meetings for which he was
sure to receive a severe reprimand and a flogging. But such a
course only made him adhere more closely to that class of
people, and after he became of age he was received into the
Society of Friends.
