Mrs. Jacob Pleiness, Sr., Pioneer of Riverton, Leaves 23 Great
Grandchildren.

SCOTTVILLE, Mich., Oct. 16-----Death came to Mrs. Jacob
Pleiness Sr., Friday noon--the end of a long, useful life. Mrs.
Pleiness, in common with the women of pioneer days, helped in
making the land a pleasant place to live.
Her home life was unusually happy in the love of her large
family. The death of six of their 12 children in early infancy
were among the sorrows of her early life. A son, Gus, grew to
manhood, passing away 15 years ago.
Five children are giving their aged father all the comfort and
care possible, just as they cared for their mother during her
illness.
Every want was anticipated and every wish granted before it was
asked; the loving attention was a source of joy to the beloved
mother, who bore her suffering patiently.
Theresa Flemming was born in Pommeranian county, Germany, Feb.
16, 1847. She was united in marriage Jan. 6, 1863, to Jacob
Pleiness, who was a native of the same county.
In 1870 the family came to America, settling near Detroit. Two
years were spent in Arkansas and two in Wisconsin. In 1881 they
came to Mason County, living in Riverton until 1897 when they
moved to the farm near Lost Lake.
The five children surviving are Mrs. Mary Weippert of
Scottville, Mrs. Anna Stovesand and Mrs. Mrs. Theresa Hilger of
Muskegon, and Jacob Pleiness, Jr., also of Lost Lake. There are
23 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at the home Monday afternoon at 1
o'clock and at 2 o'clock at the Riverton Lutheran Church.
Burial will be in the Center Riverton Cemetery. Six grandsons,
Charles and Arthur Anderson, William, Armand and Irving
Stovesand and William Weippert, will be the pallbearers.
